The triangular site is located in close proximity to the Erqi Tower.

The 3 different design proposals investigate the viability of 3 different commercial strategies on this site, while each formally respecting the Erqi Tower, the local landmark of the city.

'Enclosure & Exposure' challenges the typical podium typology and inclines the podium towards Erqi Tower, as well as providing a generous courtyard space within, hence providing a series of internal facing and external facing outdoor spaces with the aim of improving the shopping experience.

'Unity & Fluidity' challenges the typical podium typology by formally combining the podium and the tower, hence providing a fluid experience through the building and promoting vertical commerce.

'Simplicity & Complexity' combines 3 different retail models into the podium cluster, namely shopping mall, department store, and the 'village'. Its formal approach breaks down the conventional podium into small units that combine into clusters of various sizes.
